Childbirth Education

Topics Covered:

• labor and birth anatomy and physiology
• rethinking pain in childbirth: where does it come from? what is its function? what can I do about it?
• comfort measures for labor and delivery
• nutrition and exercise during pregnancy
• Optimal Fetal Positioning
• pros and cons of interventions (drugs or techniques that change the natural course of labor)
• cesarean section
• writing a birth plan
• dealing with fears surrounding labor and birth
• postnatal recovery for mama and baby
• breastfeeding basics
• newborn care
• keeping a partnership strong after having a child
• guided relaxation practice

Classes are usually a total of 15 hours, and meet on a weeknight from 6-9pm (5 consecutive weeks). Weekend classes are also occasionally offered. Note: Each class must have a minimum of two couples registered. $175/couple

Private Childbirth Refresher

Designed for parents who've already experienced birth, this class is a condensed version of the full class. 

• review of birth anatomy
• comfort measures for labor and delivery
• pros and cons of interventions

Additional topics covered will be tailored to the individual students. Want this birth to go differently than the last one? Had trouble breastfeeding your last baby? We'll discuss how to "stack the cards in your favor".

Classes are usually approximately 6 hours, but we can add or subtract time depending on what topics we cover. $20/hour

Childbirth Refresher classes are only offered privately.

Breastfeeding Basics

An introductory class for first time parents, or experienced parents who would like to know a little more for the next baby. Mamas may attend alone, but partners are encouraged to come, too!

• nursing accessories and clothing 

• infant nutrition

• the partner's role in a breastfeeding relationship

Private Classes

Private childbirth or breastfeeding classes are also available. Private classes will be held in your home (or another, agreed-upon location) on a schedule that works for both of us.
